This week I get to flex a monitor from a document label primarily based in Spain that makes a speciality of archive materials: Munster/VampiSoul. This time it is basic cumbia, gaitas, porro and paseitos from Colombia circa 1966. If you happen to go browsing and store the recording from their web site, you are handled to exhaustive researched liner notes, one of many label’s specialties.

Ana, in the meantime, continues her pursuit of the right pop document with stops in Mexico and the Dominican Republic.

Featured artists and songs:

  • Óscar Agudelo y El Combo Moderna, “Está Como Mango”
  • Isabella Lovestory, “Fresa Metallic,” “Eurotrash,” “Tu Te Vas”
  • Grecia Albán, “YO POR TI”
  • Vicente García, “Mambo Violento,” “El Huracán,” “Abusadora”
  • BALTHVS, “Flesh and Soul”
  • Gera MX, “Ciclo Important,” “1 Millón”

Audio for this episode of Alt.Latino was edited and combined by Noah Caldwell. Our mission supervisor is Grace Chung. NPR Music’s government producer is Suraya Mohamed.
