This Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, NPR Music celebrates artists from all corners of Latinidad with an ‘El Tiny’ takeover.
What an honor to host Fito Páez, one of many pioneers of Argentine rock, on the Tiny Desk for the beginning of Latin Music Month. In 1984, Páez launched his debut solo album one 12 months after Augusto Pinochet’s brutal dictatorship, becoming a member of the swell of Spanish language rock and roll that was rising in Argentina. His lyrical perception was poignant then and resonates now.
On this set, his beloved storytelling is on full show in addition to his connection to the viewers. Páez reaches again to early ’90s classics, together with “A Rodar Mi Vida” and “Mariposa Tecknicolor,” but in addition options the retrospective new music “Sale el Sol.” The closing appears like a homecoming with a rendition of “Circo Beat” that wildly transitions into the reference-heavy “Tercer Mundo,” which will get a couple of lyrical updates for 2025.
